WebMatariki is one of the most important Māori celebrations. It signifies the start of the New Year in Māori culture. In 2024, Matariki will rise from 2nd – 10th July; however, celebrations are held throughout June and July. From next year, Matariki will be officially recognised as a Public Holiday in New Zealand. WebMatariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars, also known as the Pleiades, that herald in the New Year around June-July.
